Getting Started

VEGANISM:
"is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products."

"An animal product is any material derived from animals, including:
meat, poultry, seafood, eggs, dairy products, honey, fur, wool, leather, and silk.

Other commonly used,
but less well known,
animal products are: beeswax, gelatine, bone char, bone china, carmine, casein, cochineal, isingass, lard, rennet, shellac, tallow, whey, and yellow grease."

VEGAN: "refers to a person who follows this way of eating and living."

There are so many reasons for being vegan: health reasons, animal rights, ethical reasons, environmental concerns...or a combination of all of these.

1) ETHICAL VEGANS: "rejects the commodity status of animals and the use of animal products for any purpose."

2) DIETARY VEGANS: "eliminate animals and animal products from their diet only."

3) ENVIRONMENTAL VEGANS: "rejects the use of animal products on the premise that the industrial practice is environmentally damaging and unsustainable."
